I recently picked up a copy of Metro 2033 Redux to playthru for this blog recently. While the game has an amazing atmosphere, great sound design and wonderful visuals the issues I’ve had to deal with to help promote the game, have been tedious to say the least. I’ll start with a visual for you.
Here’s a screen shot of the improved graphics of Metro 2033. While it is very dark I had planed on adding two other photos to the Wikipedia for the game to show the contrast of how awesome the new graphics are. But I had issues getting Wikipedia to accept this photo. Over 10 times. While I don’t usually obsess over the little things in life like this, it pains me not to talk about how great of a job the developer 4A Games did with the game given there limitations in the past (if you want to know to know more about there huge struggle with getting there games made in the Ukraine visit my friends at VG 24/7 to find out more). So after I took the screen shots with my PC I had to upload them and that where the problems started.
So I started by going on to the Wikipedia commons page to do my uploads, filling in this page rushing to finish up my Wikipedia entry’s. At first it kept pulling up as an error, and then just going threw. Unfortunately when I went under my page to see if it uploaded, it did not. So started me re-entering the data for his page over and over again in some sort of bad version of groundhogs day where I don’t know what going on. After about an hour of this back and forth. Low and behold I have to Google my problem to find out that wikipedia commons does not take .bmp file formats. But that’s just the tip of the problem.
Next I decide to double check everything so I read there entire rules for uploading. And you know what I, I found out why game images Don’t get posted often/ Its because of this:
Even if I did covert the photos for Wikipedia, they will be taken down. And I will get a strike on my account. So Wikipedia here are some things you can do for the both of us. Fix your file uploader to tell people when there uploading the wrong format. Also on that note save the data that a person enters for there upload in case something happens like there uploading multiple files. Next sue the government to fix the lousy laws for free use (I know that probably won’t happen, but eh I really needed to vent on that one). Finally just accept .bmp files, there amazing for PC gamers, plus there’s no loss of quality.
