This fall/summer I’ll be assembling a team to create the best game of the 21st century. Cult simulator 2000 will be traditional parody RTS is the same vein as the old World of Warcraft games or Command and Conquer. It will also include things that worked well from other games like Plague Inc. and Age of Empires. Were setting up for a big project ahead of us but don’t fret. Even if it takes a year or a year and a half were going to try and get this right.
Cult Types
We plan on including at least five types of cults in addition to the create a cult. Here’s some of what were planing:
At launch the’ll be five cult/game types to chose from:
The Occult Gazers– A cult where the player starts off as a writer from Maine and convinces small groups of people that the creatures from his book are real versions of demons. Imagine this writer as being super famous, but with his old age he’s becoming disillusioned so he focuses of making a evil cult. The cult will be our vanilla ice cream, where we introduce the player to the tutorial and to how the game will play out over the next several hours.
North Korea – This was our office favorite. It’s where you become the glorious leader and get to take charge of a small city. You’ll have the ability of executions, take downs or raids in this mode, but you have to contend with desertion and dissonance among your people. We really wanted to play with the concept of a ruthless dictator in a small city state area.
Children of the Wasteland – Take over a small bomb shelter after a nuclear war and drive the vault dwellers stay longer than they have to. Were really in the planing stage for this one. We really like the idea of letting the player take over the shelter and having to deal with dwindling resources. On the development side the small space allows for us to work in a confined space and focus on story aspects more.
Sams Town– Take over a small gambling town and convert most of the venturing out of townees into your religious cult. This will go back to being a little more into being a traditional RTS, with an emphasis on expanding your cult and resources until eventually becoming powerful enough that you control the government in your area. We also wanted to create a faction Cultbusters that goes after your people for this one.
StarGatetheans – Kidnap new recruits and convince them that an old TV show and movie are the true harbingers for a new human revolution. This cult will not focus on resource gathering so much as brainwashing and stealing.
Each cult will play different and and will have stats and buffers.
Multiplayer
We wont touch the idea of multiplayer until we under stand how we want cults to be balanced and how the create a player will factor in here.
